Pro Vista

What is best XP pro or vista premieum?
please can someone help me i am thinking of buying a laptop on christmas, i have found one but i have a choice of xp pro or vista premium???? what one is better please help me… thanks!
It honestly depends on your uses. Vista is a better gaming environment because of it’s use of DirectX10 (but this is a purely visual improvement). For outright performance that would be XP.
Both are available in 32bit and 64bit. If you need a lot of ram (greater than ~4GB) the 64bit versions of either will address this.
As things currently stand though, XP simply runs better, ie: more stable and with less system resources.
I’ve used both, and with an optimized system (meaning things have been tweaked by myself to disable certain things I do not use or want), my XP machine will run at idle with less than 200MB of ram in use, where Vista I found difficult to get lower than 600MB. This is at IDLE… meaning the computer is just sitting there with the desktop looking right at me.
While a lot of Vistas bugs have been worked out (and continue to be), it should be noted that even XP is still receiving updates from Microsoft to address stability and security issues. Vista will have along way to go in order to come close to catching up with XP.
For this reason XP is still the standard. No real world company with a competent IT department will switch over to Vista because it is simply too risky to trust right now.
If you are a gamer or tech junkie that just HAS to have the newest stuff then go Vista. Otherwise you would be better off (ie: far fewer headaches) with XP.
Personal opinions:
Some will say do linux. Personally I don’t like linux. Yes it is more basic and streamlines than anything else, but it’s a bit TOO basic for my tastes. You essentially have to build your own OS from it, and I don’t have that time.
As for OS-X (Mac), there is nothing special about really, it’s like a pre-optimized version of XP that still has some bugs (note: you can optimize XP to run as well or better than OS-X), and Apple’s hardware is overpriced (you can build a better PC for far less).
I’ve used everything and found XP to be the best all-around OS. Far more stable/usable than Vista, Less complicated than Linux (while still having it’s complex side), able to run as smoothly (if not better) than OS-X.
This is why when I bought my new notebook the first thing I did was format the drive and install XP. It ran so much better than with the Pre-loaded Vista on it.
