What’s Better for Gaming? More Cores or More Clock Speed per Core?

I want to help my friend build a PC or build one for him. He is an avid gamer and I would like to know if more cores are better, or if more clock speed per core is better. I was thinking in favor of clock speed because I heard that some games, or most, don’t even know how to use just two cores yet, however the best alienware computer has eight total cores. So, which is better for gaming?

As understand it, ther are no games as yet written for more than a dual core processor. If that is the case, then once you’re playing with a 2 core machine and up…The processor speed would be the deciding factor.

I would think the video card GPU and memory capacity/speed on that card would make more difference than a multicore processor. As long as the processor and power supply would handle the card.
