Computer Mint
After installing Linux mint 9 in my computer freezes?

It freezes during startup many times. It works after turning it on many times. When using my computer it would go to a black screen and say Glib warning **: getpwid_(): failed due to unknown ue id. Then it would freeze. Now I’m a total noob on Linux so I don’t know what to do.

It sounds like a hardware problem to be honest. That warning that you posted is normal and would not cause any problems.

You may want to try and reinstall after unplugging your computer and hitting the power button to discharge any energy left. One time I tried to install an OS when the Hard drive had a hiccup, it didn’t work out. Powering down completely fixed the issue though.

You may want to try and power down unplug the computer, hit the power button, plug it back in and boot up and see if the corrects the issue first.

If you reinstall, be sure to create a Partition for your /, swap, /tmp, and /home folder, thus if you want to update to Linux Mint 10 when it comes out, you just install over and relabel the partitions again without formatting your /home partition thus you lose none of your data.
