Bare System
For a belief system to be considered a religion, is some reaction of “awe” to the “transcendent” required?
To put the question in a different way: Obviously, a belief system doesn’t have to include a god/gods to be a religion. (Otherwise, religious studies would be leaving out millions of Buddhists and Hindus of various types.) So what is the “bare minimum” requirements which you think must be present for a belief system to be a religion?
